Simple Business Reputation Management with Google Alerts

Google Alerts is a smart and, above all, free tool that businesses can use to manage their online reputation. It is so easy to use that it only takes a minute to set up.

Google Alerts searches the web for keywords or phrases of your choice. Each time the program finds a new match for the information that you have entered, you will receive an email. You can choose whether you want to receive emails on a daily or weekly basis.

To set up Google Alerts, open your browser and go to the following page: The first field you need to fill in is the search query field. This is where you enter your chosen keyword or key phrase, for example, your name or your business name.

In the second field you can choose which type of result you would like to monitor. The choices are news, blogs, videos, discussions (forums), books, or everything.

The third field lets you choose how often you want to receive notifications. Choosing daily email updates enables you to act as soon as something appears on the web. This could be important when it comes to managing a business’ reputation, especially if a malignant individual posts something negative. A prompt notification allows you to go into damage control immediately.

In the fourth field you choose whether you want to see all the results that Google has found, or only the best ones. The second option filters out junk, like duplicate results. You can always go back to change this option if you find that you are receiving too many or too little notifications.

To finish, enter your email address in the last field and click Create Alert.

Google Alerts will quickly proof itself essential in managing the online reputation of your business. The best thing about the tool, however, is that you can just set it up and then forget about it. Soon you will be receiving alerts whenever something is posted on web about your business, products, or services. You can also use Google Alerts to keep track of your competition.
